The June Fun Run was a trip to the Santa Barbara Botanical Gardens. We took CA 154 down and were very happy to see new growth in the areas that had burned so badly a year ago. At the Gardens, we walked through the zones – Arroyo, Canyon, Desert, Manzanita, Meadow and Redwood – enjoying the displays of native plants for each area. We all had a favorite. It was interesting that the giant redwoods were not visible as we approached the area, but as always, they were impressive. We browsed the books on local plants and animals in the Garden Shop and Nursery. The highlight of the tour was watching the actions of a raptor family. The nestlings were not quite ready to attempt their first flight, but had no problems moving along the branch next to the nest.
